SETAF-AF hosts concept development event to shape MEDREX program
The Southern European Task Force-Africa’s Surgeon Directorate hosted a Medical Readiness Exercise (MEDREX) Concept Development Event (CDE), Vicenza, Italy, Sept. 13-17, 2021. Participants worked to set forth the foundation to plan and execute MEDREXs in fiscal year(FY) 2022, and laid out the planning framework for FY 23-26.
“MEDREX is a mutually beneficial program,” said Maj. Gen. Andrew Rohling, SETAF-AF commanding general. “Our U.S. Army medical professionals increase their knowledge, medical readiness, and combat effectiveness. All while providing healing – and sometimes – life-saving care alongside our African partners.”

The U.S. Army Southern European Task Force, Africa surgeon directorate hosted a medical readiness exercise (MEDREX) concept development event Sept. 13-17 in Vicenza. The event also had a virtual audience consisting of personnel from medical units from multiple U.S. commands, U.S. embassy representatives, and African partner nation representatives.
Over 40 medical professionals attended the event in person with some 30 in attendance virtually. Participants established the foundation for planning and executing MEDREXs in fiscal year 2022 and laid out the planning framework for fiscals 2023-2026. Eight African nations, including Senegal, South Africa, Kenya, Ghana, Angola, Chad, Rwanda and Morocco are slated to host MEDREXs during fiscal 2022.
